 Designed the LAN for the office and implemented it.  Used Novell 3.11 server and 10 client PCs running Windows 3.1.  Managed weekly collection of data and its transmission to the US based HQ in Richmond, VA using courier services.  Upgraded the network to Windows NT 4 with an internet connection via wireless radio.  Total child records collected and managed rose from around 7,000 to 14, 000 in the 5 years I was there.  Recruited resource personnel and trained them in computer use and management for 6 newly introduced resource centres across central province.

 Defended the proposal to fund the IT department at PCI worth US$48,000 and got it!  Designed the Local area network, implemented it and incorporated two Windows 2000 servers running DNS and DHCP. Set up MS-Exchange 2000 e-mail servers to include redundancy with a second server.  Configured routing via an Intel Gateway firewall/router for the entire office and configured it to provide VPN connections for laptops and the Head Office in San Diego, Ca.  Configured dial-up access for one field office in Nchelenge, Luapula province to access the LAN and their e-mails.  Designed a resource centre with 6 PCs and a printer for 12 partner NGOs to access computer and internet resources at PCI.  Designed the AfricakidSAFE (AKS) database and provided computer training for all 12 NGO partners in the project. This is a child welfare support program targeting the street kids which was initiated by PC and 12 local NGOs.  Provided team leadership for AKS and coordinated the whole database development project.  Coordinated and helped design the AKS project questionnaires and reviewed the design of questionnaires for data collection.  Further designed the data entry form in MS-Access 2000 and supervised the data entry process

Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ)
 Administered and managed a network with over 200Pcs and laptops along the central line of rail (ZR).  Ensured the Network both cable and wireless was secure at all times.  I had to make sure every internet connection was always up and stable at all times in all railway stations and expatriate homes.  Since we had different locations along the line of rail, I had to collaborate with three Internet Service Providers (ISPs) namely Zamtel, iConnect and V-sat systems.  I also had to provide mobile internet and train to those that needed training in using this technology.  Managed and coordinated a GPS system that monitors movement of trains across Zambia for RSZ.  Implemented a new Fibre Optic link to connect all the terminals at the workshops and a radio link between three points within Kabwe town.  Finally I managed to upgrade 80% of the PCs to the latest brands on the market to ensure maximum up-time for the users.

 I was in charge of the Zambian IT office working in collaboration with the African regional office and the Asian regional office. Periodically we had the usual supervisory meetings with the Kansas office in the US.  My charge included responsibility over all IT related contracts i.e. Fibre, ISP, hardware repair and maintenance and mobile phone contracts etc.  I was responsible for drafting all the user IT Policies for computers and Mobile phone users which covered BYOD as well.  I oversaw the running, updating and management of the local child database for over 14,000 children.  Our network comprised over 80Pcs and laptops in Lusaka spread across three (3) centres and the head office – four sites in all.  We upgraded the metropolitan network that connects all four offices to fibre optic cable with backup link via radio.  We also upgraded all users on our domain to Microsoft Azure cloud and Office 365 online with Onedrive for automated online backups.  We upgraded Skype to Skype for Business for our international communication.  In collaboration with the Kansas Office, we introduced an online based procurement system.  Still working with Kansas we also introduced an online based budgeting system.  The IT department also managed the asset management and tracking system. It was our responsibility to update all fixed asset records and also retire the ones due for retirement. This also included disposal of old and written off assets.
